Writer/Producer, John Mulders has been making films since he was 15 years old. He started at home with family and holiday skits and soon moved to a community based production and training facility, Metro Television. Following was study at the AFTRS external courses, which led to several independent 16 mm productions.
John has also been involved in regional theatre for many years, working in the many facets of theatre production, especially directing and design.
During the 1990s, after completing a BA in Communication Studies (distinction), where he majored in Journalism, Media Studies and Media Production, John made films for community groups, ‘Tropfest’, and has credits with other short productions in the various roles of director, editor, and cinematographer. Concurrently, he was busy writing various scripts, from documentary treatments to screenplays.
As a founding member of `Live Surgery’, a leading company in the field of video conferencing and broadcasting of medical procedures, John and the team have held numerous live video and audio links in various sites in Australia and Asia, enabling Surgeons’ education at the highest level. However, John’s true love is still documentary production, and he has a passion for telling stories; whether historical, social, or of the natural world.

JOHN THOMSON BSc Dip ED - Technical Director
John is the tech brains behind Live Surgery .
Filming a live surgery event requires a crew who are experienced in the operating theatre environment and who are fully aware of the ethical boundaries that transmitting such an event entails. We have been producing live surgery events for over 20 years and are arguably Australia’s most experienced independent live surgery production crew.
Using state of the art technology, we connect endocams, microscopes, ultrasound, etc, as well as our proprietary boom mounted camera and tripod mounted cameras as required for your event.
Headset mounted radio microphones enable the surgeon to communicate directly, and with clarity, with the conference room moderator during the surgery.
We can also live stream the event, in cooperation with your web designer, to your webpage
as well as record the production for future screenings or uploading to websites such as VuMedi.
Over the years we have produced events ranging from multi hospital satellite and microwave transmissions to small in house conferences.
Our regular clients include Cochlear Australia, Depuy Synthes, Stryker, Corin, Smith And Nephew, Johnson And Johnson, and many others.
